Chestnut Tree Planting Guide

Once you’ve purchased your chestnut trees, follow this guide for planting instructions:

Young tree planted in a grassy field, supported by a white protective tube, with other similar trees and a dense forest in the background under a clear sky at dusk.
  • Depending on when you obtain your trees, leave them in the pot until at least October, when conditions are most suitable and recommended for planting.

  • While in pot, water the tree well enough to facilitate recoil from the pot.

  • Once you are ready to plant directly in the ground, you should dig a hole that is the same depth as the soil in your potted Chestnut, and twice as wide to facilitate root growth.

  • Place the tree into the hole and fill it back in with the native soil from the dig site.

  • Water thoroughly

  • No fertilizer is necessary at this stage

  • The trees will need to be watered based off of your unique soil’s moisture of your planting site.

  • If in an area where native animals are frequent, tree protectors are recommended, especially from deer.

  • Planting multiple trees is recommended for pollination purposes, with each tree being at least 20 to 30 feet apart from one another to allow the adequate pollination to take place.
